IgniStudio: A Unique Jewelry Gallery Workshop

Combining Art, Design, and Craftsmanship

IgniStudio, designed by Johanna Cevallos, is a one-of-a-kind jewelry gallery workshop that seamlessly blends the worlds of art, design, and craftsmanship. Inspired by the natural irregularities of gems and metals, this project showcases the jewelry creation process while also exhibiting the final pieces as works of art.

What sets IgniStudio apart is its focus on creating an immersive experience for both the client and the artist. The entrance of the studio serves as a meeting area where ideas are exchanged and designs are discussed. This space also doubles as an exhibition area, allowing visitors to witness the evolution of a piece from concept to completion.

The main structure of IgniStudio is a captivating envelope made of gypsum boards with a reflective finish. Supported by a galvanized steel structure, it forms a small living room that functions as a gallery. The private spaces, such as the storage area and restroom, are enclosed by wooden wall coverings, creating a focal point at the entrance and defining the gallery and workshop areas. The workshop area features industrial design elements, with visible connections and wall outlets, as well as furniture that incorporates the imperfections of wood, giving it a distinct workspace feel. The entire floor is made of polished concrete, adding to the studio's modern aesthetic.

Located in the heart of Cumbaya Valley in Quito, Ecuador, IgniStudio interacts directly with its surroundings. Its open facade showcases the jewelry, inviting passersby to explore the space. The unique aspect of this studio is the opportunity for clients to engage with the owner, who is both the jewelry designer and an architect. This personal interaction adds a special touch to the overall experience, making visitors feel connected to the jewelry and the creative process.

From the initial design to the construction phase, IgniStudio presented several challenges. The complex volumetry and geometry of the envelopes required meticulous attention to detail. Additionally, creating a semi-private workshop area that adhered to safety regulations while still allowing clients to observe the jewelry-making process was a creative and technical hurdle that was successfully overcome.

IgniStudio, with its innovative concept and meticulous design, has garnered recognition in the design world. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate exceptional creativity, technical skill, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

IgniStudio, a true fusion of art and craftsmanship, offers a unique space where jewelry becomes an experience. With its captivating design, it invites clients to be part of the creative process and showcases the beauty of jewelry as a form of art.
